Freestyling!

This is a video of Shade and I's freestyle routine at the Dixie Dog Championships in Macon, GA.  This was our first solid attempt at competing in freestyle.  Our first and only other attempt was in Columbus, GA last summer and was a complete debacle.  Turns out, this time was much better as we finished 1st at the intermediate level.  We still have plenty of work to do to compete with the big boys but this is a good start.  Please excuse Denver's jealous whining in the background.

Therapy Work

During the past fall, I decided that I wanted to give back to the community in some way.  I thought, "maybe there is a way I can share my dogs with others".  After doing some research, I found a local organization that had teams of dogs and handlers that would visit nursing homes, hospitals, homeless shelters, etc. to help brighten the days of people and often help them toward recovery.  For those that have never met my dogs, Shade is way to hyper for this type of venture but Denver on the other hand would be perfect.  He has a great energetic drive outside which makes him good for competition but his energy inside is completely mellow.  He would be perfect.  So we set off to become members to Happy Tails pet therapy organization.

Let the Season Begin

March 20th marked the start of our 2010 disc dog season.  The first competition of our year was the Dixie Disc Dog Championships held in Macon, GA.  I had been working with Shade during the offseason in putting together a freestyle routine so we could compete at the intermediate level.  I felt we had a good routine going in but knew it was still pretty raw and could use a lot of work.  Denver on the other hand isn't ready for freestyle yet and would be competing in the Advanced Toss & Fetch.  Who knew what the day would bring.
